The people of Karachi are very particular about their homes, especially their kitchen, and that is the reason why a variety of kitchen cabinet materials are available in the market.
The prominent ones include:
1- M.D.F (LASSANI)
The most popular material used for Kitchen is M.D.F (Medium Density Fiberboard) and is commonly known as Lassani by Pakistanis. The material is not only used for kitchens but also for other furniture like wardrobes and bed sets. You can easily get the material ready in the market with different types of finishings like Lamination, Acrylic, PU and UV coating which makes the material look more enhanced.
Lassani can also be painted or have polyester coating for a better look. The best part is M.D.F material looks expensive but is priced reasonably.
2- CHIP BOARD
Chipboard is commercially used in Pakistan because of its cheap pricing. However, the material is quite difficult to shape as compared to M.D.F because of its thickness of wood particles. Some people believe that M.D.F is better because it doesn’t not get damaged in water unlike Chipboard, however, this perception is incorrect as both materials are water resistant.
Chipboard material is one of the oldest materials used and is mostly obsolete, but it’s still available in some markets with final coatings such as lamination, acrylic etc.
3- STRIP BOARD
One of the rarely used materials is Strip board because it is not easily available in the markets. The material is hard to cut and looks average as it doesn’t have any coatings. However, it is best part is that it is formaldehyde free.
4- PLYWOOD
Plywood is another material used in kitchens, but it is not very popular because of its difficult cutting and average finishing.
5- MARINE PLYWOOD
As the name suggests, Marine Plywood is waterproof. People use this material where water is frequently used, such as kitchen sink.
6- P.V.C FOAM BOARD
P.V.C Foam Board is a new material in the market, and it is quite expensive. Since it is waterproof, it can also be used in kitchen sink, however, this material lacks strong gripping which makes its difficult for adjustment.
7- W.P.C (WOOD PLASTIC COMPOSITE)
Not easily available in the markets of Karachi, W.P.C is used because it is waterproof and therefore is widely used in the sink unit. This material has limited options of finishings available.
People prefer such materials for their Kitchens that are available at a reasonable price and are long-lasting with a high-quality finish.
